There is no “Montessori type” amongst our parents, who come in “all shapes and sizes” so to speak! All sorts of professions, lifestyles and backgrounds are represented. We have everyone from full-time mums (and even dads) who are looking for a nursery place for their child, to those who work or study either full or part-time and rely on us to take care of their children in a home-from-home environment between 8am and 6pm.
We are a warm, lively and inclusive community in which each child, parent/carer and staff member has a place. However it is entirely up to you as to how “involved” you wish to get in the life of the school, according to your other commitments.
Whatever your circumstances, we believe that good communication between school and home is a vital component of childcare. We provide each family with their own Montessori File, so that they can keep everything related to Montessori and their child’s education to hand.
One of our most recent initiatives – instigated in response to parents’ suggestions - has been to offer “Montessori Mums and Dads” sessions. These consist of four evenings held at the Anne Frank school at the beginning of each term. Parents are invited to come and find out all about:
- Dr Maria Montessori and her amazing life
- The history of Montessori education: worldwide, in Europe and specifically in the UK
- Montessori philosophy
- Practical Life activities
- Sensorial learning and the brain
- The concepts of “Flow” and the Work Cycle.
At the end of each session participants go home with at least one practical activity to do with or for their child the next day. This has been an excellent way of empowering parents to support the Montessori approach to their child’s education at home, enabling school and home to work effectively together in the child’s best interests.

Furthermore, each parent is automatically a “Friend of Montessori” and we are planning to restart this parent interest group which proved very effective in planning and supporting school events and meeting the needs of parents.
We encourage all our parents to:
- Susbscribe to the Montessori Schools Association (which entitles them to receive a free, informative and high quality magazine);
- Attend “Montessori Mums and Dads”;
- Explore the possibility of taking the Foundation Certificate in Montessori Pedagogy through the evening course we offer at Anne Frank’s.
